The seemingly alive circular pattern which radiates across the piece is created by the layer of guipure lace placed upon two layers of printed silk organza in different weights. Five months of research and development went into printing the silk organza panels with a motif inspired by SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) images of the otherworldly landscape of a sea urchin’s skeleton. The print’s blurred three- dimensionality is created by placing printed panels slightly offset from one another, and the extended ruffled ends of the custom-made cotton guipure lace. The dress features an extended bustier and a fitted skirt, accentuating the strong silhouette.
